Sharpening minds for success through Critical thinking and problem-solving training
In August 2024, the Indorama Ventures Vietnam took a significant step in strengthening its middle management’s skills by organizing a two-day training program focused on critical thinking and problem solving. The workshop brought together employees from multiple departments, equipping them with essential tools and knowledge to enhance their decision-making abilities in today’s fast-paced and competitive manufacturing environment.
Mr. Vinay Bhardwaj, Country Head and Vice Chairman, emphasized the importance of this training during his address to participants. He highlighted the daily challenges employees face and the need for ownership in decision-making. “Each employee is a warrior, making critical decisions day and night. Our goal is to empower them to take ownership and work together to make timely, accurate decisions. This requires sharpening our analytical skills“, he said.
He also shared valuable advice on overcoming challenges, stressing the role of personal responsibility and teamwork in problem-solving. He encouraged participants to view problems as opportunities for growth and to utilize critical thinking as a “power weapon” in tackling them, stating that by sharing knowledge and working collaboratively, they can build stronger teams and make better decisions.
Participants engaged in interactive sessions that covered the fundamentals of critical thinking, problem-solving, and decision-making. The training provided practical strategies to identify and address decision-making pitfalls, generate multiple alternatives, and communicate decisions effectively within a team environment. With this training the company continues to invest in improvement and leadership development, equipping middle management with the skills to lead with clarity and contribute to the company’s ongoing success.
On completion of the training, some of the participants shared their experience. Mr. Doan Thanh Cong from the EHS department said: “As a person responsible for Environment, Health, and Safety, I face numerous challenges daily that can be quite stressful. This training has been invaluable in teaching me how to identify problems, prioritize tasks effectively, and make decisions without letting personal emotions interfere. It’s a game-changer in ensuring that I stay focused and make the best decisions under pressure“.
Ms. Dinh Thi Kim Hong from the Finance department, who joined the company just a month ago, expressed her appreciation for the program: “Participating in this training program not only did it allow me to build meaningful connections with colleagues across our regional sites and head office, but it also provided me with powerful tools to elevate my professional capabilities. Through immersive workshops and collaborative exercises, I’ve gained essential negotiation techniques and frameworks for data-driven decision-making – skills that are directly applicable to my role in finance and will help me drive stronger business outcomes“.
